Brace sores on ankles - prevention tips?

My poor baby's ankles are red raw from the brace rubbing. Only been in boots and bar for 2 weeks and it looks awful. Skin is broken on one side.
Hospital said sudocrem but it's not helping. Any actually effective prevention tips? Different socks maybe?
I hate seeing him in pain from something meant to help 💔

Brace sores were the bane of our life 😩 What helped:
1. Silicone heel socks from Amazon (game changer)
2. Cotton socks UNDERNEATH the boots
3. Duoderm patches on sore spots BEFORE they break
4. No creasing in socks inside the boot
Also get the fit checked - sores often mean boots need adjusting. Our orthotist tweaked the padding and it was like a different brace!

Compeed plasters on the sore patches then socks over top. The Compeed acts as second skin so rubbing is on the plaster not actual skin.
Also - are you using the right socks? Our hospital gave specific seamless socks. You can buy AFO socks from Special Kids Company.

I would recommend an urgent orthotist review. Skin breakdown should not be happening and usually indicates a fitting issue rather than an inherent brace problem.
Keep broken skin clean and dry. Cavilon barrier cream is better than Sudocrem for this purpose. Use seamless cotton socks. If it looks infected (hot, spreading redness), see your GP.
Don't accept this as normal - it can be resolved 💙

the thing that FINALLY fixed it was getting the boots professionally stretched at a cobbler believe it or not 😂 the leather was too stiff straight out of the box. cobbler softened them up and no more sores!
