Cast removal day - what actually happens?

Tomorrow is cast removal day and I'm oddly nervous. They use a saw right?? On my 8 week old baby?!

I know it doesn't cut skin (vibrating not spinning) but can anyone talk me through what happens? Does baby need to be held still? Is it loud?

First time parent anxiety is real 🙈

It's a vibrating saw not a cutting one - it literally cannot cut skin! I was SO scared too but it took about 30 seconds and my baby didn't even react. The noise is the worst part.

They hold baby's leg, run saw down the side, crack cast open, examine foot (amazing bit - you see the progress!), put new one on. You'll be fine! 💙

i was terrified of the saw too and then it was like... oh. thats it? 😂 really not scary at all. louder than you expect maybe but baby was fine.

the best bit is seeing the foot afterwards. the improvement is genuinely amazing. take a photo!!

The oscillating saw vibrates rather than rotates, meaning it won't cut through skin. The sensation is similar to an electric toothbrush pressed against your arm.

Baby needs to be held still briefly. Most parents hold baby while a nurse assists. Whole process 1-2 minutes.

Good luck tomorrow! You'll wonder what the fuss was about 😊

Pro tip: have someone film the foot reveal! I have a video of each cast removal showing progression. One of my most treasured things.

Also prepare for the smell and dry skin 🤢😂
