We're about to start boots and bar and I'm reading about different brace types. Our hospital uses Mitchell as standard but I've seen people talk about Dobbs being easier.
What's the actual difference? Is one better? Can you request a specific one?

We used the Dobbs bar and loved it. Main difference is individual boots that clip on separately, so you put boots on one at a time. Made bedtime SO much easier.
Mitchell is standard NHS though so you might need to specifically ask. Our hospital offered both.

Had Mitchell first then Dobbs - both were fine. Mitchell is simpler (less moving parts) but Dobbs is easier to put on.
The best one is whichever your orthotist is most experienced fitting. A well-fitted Mitchell beats a badly-fitted Dobbs any day 👍

Both are evidence-based and effective. The Dobbs has a hinge allowing independent dorsiflexion, which may improve compliance. No strong evidence one produces better outcomes - compliance is the most important factor regardless of brace type.
Speak with your team about which they have most experience fitting.
