How long did your baby's first cast last?

Hi everyone 👋 We just had our first Ponseti cast put on yesterday and I'm already counting down the days! Our consultant said 5-7 days for the first one but I've heard other people say theirs was only 4 days? Just wondering what's normal.

Also - is it weird that I cried more than my baby did? 😅

Ours was 5 days for the first one, then 7 days for the rest. I think it depends on how severe the clubfoot is and your hospital's protocol. Try not to overthink it - they know what they're doing! 💙

And yes I cried WAY more than my son did 😂 You're not alone there

First cast was 7 days, then weekly changes after that. We had 6 casts total at Sheffield Children's. The first one is definitely the hardest emotionally but it honestly gets easier each time x

4 days for us! Then 7 days for the next 4 casts. Our consultant at Alder Hey explained that the first cast is sometimes shorter because they want to check progress quickly when the foot is most flexible.

Hang in there, it flies by faster than you think 🦶

The duration of the first cast can vary between 4-7 days depending on the degree of correction needed and the clinician's protocol. Both timeframes are well within normal parameters. The important thing is regular review. If you notice any issues with circulation (blue toes, excessive swelling), contact your team promptly.

Well done for starting the journey - you're doing great!

honestly the waiting between casts was worse than the actual casting for me 😅 I spent the whole time checking his toes were the right colour and googling everything. 5 days felt like 5 years!

it does get easier promise x
