Relapse after stopping brace too early ๐Ÿ˜ข

I need to share this as a warning. We stopped the night brace at 2.5 years because our son hated it. Consultant had said continue until 4.

At age 3, his foot started turning in. Confirmed relapse. Now we need more casting and possibly another tenotomy.

I feel so guilty. Please keep up with bracing even when its hard. Has anyone been through relapse treatment? ๐Ÿ’”

I'm so sorry ๐Ÿ’” Please don't beat yourself up. Bracing is HARD and without proper support, many families struggle with compliance.

We went through relapse too. Re-casting was actually easier than the first time because we knew what to expect. Our son handled it like a champ.

Your boy is going to be fine.

Thank you for sharing this. Relapse treatment can include:
- Further casting (2-4 casts)
- Repeat tenotomy if needed
- Possible anterior tibial tendon transfer in older children
- Resumption of bracing

Outcomes for treated relapses are still very good. Early intervention is key, which you've done.

Please don't carry guilt - you're not alone in this experience ๐Ÿ’™

please dont be too hard on yourself. i know SO many families who struggled with compliance. the support from hospitals is often not enough - you get shown how to put the brace on and sent home.

your son's foot will be corrected again. kids are resilient ๐Ÿ’™

We had relapse treatment last year. 3 extra casts and a mini tenotomy. Honestly less traumatic than the first round because we were old pros at casting ๐Ÿ˜…

He's back in boots and bar now and we are RELIGIOUS about it. Not missing a single night.

It'll be ok x
