Just finished our first week with the Ponseti cast and wanted to share some things that caught me off guard:

1. The cast is HEAVY for a tiny baby
2. Nappies need to go UNDER the cast edge or you get leaks (learnt at 3am 🙃)
3. Baby slept better than I expected
4. The smell when they take the cast off is... something else
5. Bring snacks for yourself to the appointment

What would you add??

Adding mine:

6. Stock up on muslins - SO many tucking them round the cast
7. Buy a cast cover for baths (Amazon, like £8)
8. Take photos of the foot before each cast - the progression is amazing
9. The appointment takes like 15 mins max
10. Other clubfoot parents are the BEST support network

Also yes the smell 🤢🤢🤢 nothing prepares you

Number 4 😂😂😂 the SMELL. I nearly threw up the first time they took a cast off.

I'd add: bring a change of clothes for baby because they might wee everywhere when the cast comes off (freedom excitement lol)

Also: it's OK to cry. It's OK to feel sad. Your feelings are valid 💙

Saving this post! My addition: if youre breastfeeding, practice a comfortable position NOW before the cast goes on. The cast makes the rugby ball hold impossible. Side lying feeding became our go-to.

Also: accept help. If someone offers - SAY YES.
